Alternate Plans Book 2 in the California Dreamin' Series by Author Jenn Flynn-Shon

Jenn Flynn-Shon, author of the Shaw McLeary Mystery Series, is back with her eighth title: Alternate Plans, the second book in her second series, the California Dreamin' Series.

Alternate Plans is a Tomboy-Lit novella set twenty-two years ago and centered around a supporting character from the first book in The California Dreamin’ Series. Take a trip back in time to the mid 1990’s and join Deb on her journey as she comes of age during the Grunge era.

When Deb Martin moved away from her childhood home six months ago she swore to herself two things. One, she would always be there to help her family in times of need but, two, she would make it on her own. Without their money. Without using her given name to get ahead. But life has a funny way of backing up on a person and when Deb finds herself in a financial jam she resigns to accepting help from her dad. If only he would call her back. While she waits, Deb meets a town full of people who love to help each other. Including one available, attractive guy, Adam. Despite her finding Adam moderately annoying, Deb has no choice but to accept his help. Could her unfortunate circumstance make her realize that on her own doesn’t have to mean alone and that, sometimes, what you need is right in front of you?

Alternate Plans is available on Amazon. Click the book title to purchase.

Reckless Abandon Blog Tour Wrap Up and the Month Ahead

Wow, April was quite the busy month around these parts!

The Blog Tour for Reckless Abandon was a great success! The winner of the giveaway over at The Book Bag was chosen and I'm so excited to get this book out to her. I really hope she enjoys it!

Every blogger on the tour was gracious and wonderful to get their posts up on the scheduled dates with zero drama or complications. I hope their traffic got a bump out of it because they're all fantastic book bloggers. Anything you could be looking for in the realms of Romance, Erotica, Women's Fiction, Chick Lit, or many other genres can be found reviewed on these sites. Readers are the lifeblood of published Authors and I can't begin to thank them enough for doing just that - reading my novella. Thanks for taking part in my tour!

But none of it would have been possible if it wasn't for Samantha at Chick Lit Plus for her super organizational skills to pull these fantastic bloggers together for a most successful tour! Thanks Samantha!

If you'd like to re-visit, or visit for the first time, any of the bloggers from my tour click over to the Tour Page on Writesy Press.

May is shaping up to be just as busy as April was as I revive some old projects, breathe life into a couple of previously shelved projects, and also start something new.

My digital journal, Randomness and Lunacy, is where you'll find me most of the month. I'm doing a month long of music inspired posts. So far I've written/published/scheduled to post up through May 8 and I'm very proud of the stories included. Many of them will contribute to my new creative non-fiction project.

The possible memoir will be a slow and steady piece of work for me through the summer. In addition I also plan to edit poems for my soon to be re-released expanded Trying for the Moon.

I also plan to take the sequel for Reckless Abandon in a new direction this month and I've already got a few thousand words down on paper. I think the storyline will be enjoyable for readers and might answer some of those lingering questions they may still have after finishing Reckless Abandon. I may not finish the draft by the end of the month but I'm goaling myself to have a first draft ready by June 11.

As my own Agent I set the deadlines but that doesn't make them any less real. Sometimes I think the added pressure is good for me though. Call it the perfectionist in me or whatever you like but I like to deliver on the promises I make. I'm expecting to spend the rest of the summer editing the novel and pulling cover art together. If this next one ends up as a Writesy Press Publication as well then I hope to have it out by August. However I'm considering other options with this one.

I've already self-published two books and though I enjoyed the experience I think it's time for me to really buckle down to find an Agent. I'd really like to see what it's like on the other side being published by a traditional house. We'll see what happens. By August I could completely change my mind and decide to dive right back into the frantic weeks spent publishing another book!

Have a great May folks, see you out there somewhere in the written world.

Back in August of 2012 I took Ripple the Twine on a virtual book tour organized by Chick Lit Plus. Now that Reckless Abandon is out in print as well as eBook it seemed like the perfect time to contact Samantha for my next tour!

My Blog Book Tour for Reckless Abandon will run April 15-29. Just like the last one it will consist of book excerpts, guest posts, interviews and reviews from some bloggers that I've really come to enjoy reading since doing my last tour, as well as some new bloggers I look forward to getting to know this time around. I know you'll enjoy it!

Graphic for the tour should be posted on the Chick Lit Plus site soon and I'll share all the info as it becomes available. I'm really looking forward to touring this book and I'm so proud of how well it's already being received by readers.

I'm always interested in what you have to say about my books. Even if it's short and sweet it would be very helpful, and I'd be most grateful, for an Amazon review of Reckless Abandon. Reviews help Authors thrive in the competitive marketplace and gain higher ranking on Amazon which of course helps with exposure. And we Indies need as much of it as we can get!

And a big huge THANKS to everyone who has already reviewed it on Amazon or Goodreads! You rock!

Ripple the Twine and Reckless Abandon Now in eBook or Paperback

I've been saying for months now that I was going to publish Ripple the Twine as an eBook in addition to its print form but just never got off my butt to figure out how to do it. Then back in October of 2012 I published Reckless Abandon as an eBook and a whole new world opened up!

The real secret that I found out was that publishing an eBook on KDP Select through Amazon is easy. Really, really easy (disclaimer: as long as you've already formatted your Word doc correctly but that's a post for my Writesy blog).

So after I fully formatted Reckless Abandon for paperback (and let me just give a HUGE thank you shout-out to my mom Judi FitzPatrick Studio, for her amazing work on both of my cover designs!) it seemed like a no brainer to get Ripple the Twine ready for sale as an eBook.

And now they're both here in both formats, ready for your reading pleasure! A brief synopsis of each book and the cover art is below, please click on the links that follow to read more, see what my reviewers are saying (LOVE you all!), and to purchase either the eBook or print version depending on your preference.

Stick around as I'll be talking soon about an upcoming Blog Tour for Reckless Abandon and will be hosting a Giveaway on Goodreads for a print copy of the book as well. Happy reading!

Ripple the Twine

A Tomboy-meets-Townie love story that shows how sometimes friends can be your closest family.

Set in Boston Ripple tells the story of Sara Quinn, a 30-something sportswriter thawing out after a long winter season on the sidelines of the fields and the ice. She's a rabid hockey fan and has an eclectic crew of friends who have been battling multiple issues without her while she was off covering the winter market. Now that she's back, everyone is coming to her for advice. Its causing her insecurities about love to bubble up just as a cute Townie named Ben enters the picture. Is she willing to let go of her emotionally painful past to give Ben a chance? And what will Sara do when her three closest friends all announce they may be out of the country more often then they're in it? Can any of them handle their problems on their own or will life force them back together to face things as a family?

Reckless Abandon, A Novella by Jenn Flynn-Shon

Reckless Abandon by Author Jenn Flynn-Shon, is a Romantic Suspense novella. The first in the Shaw McLeary series. Due for release October 2012.

SYNOPSIS

Young Adult fiction Author, Shaw McLeary, returns from Whole Foods to discover her husband, Danny, is gone. So is their stash of cash, his clothes, passport, and her wedding rings. He took off in a hurry and left her behind. While trying to piece it all together Shaw witnesses a cop’s murder in her home. Determined not to become the next victim, she flees. She fears dirty cops are involved in Danny’s disappearance. There's only one person she can trust to help her - JJ Anderson, Private Investigator. Also, her ex-fiancé.

A retired Phoenix cop turned PI, Shaw hopes JJ will be inclined to take her case. Despite his resentment for how their relationship ended, he agrees to help her track down leads on Danny. They chase the clues from Phoenix to Manhattan to upstate New York. In such close quarters Shaw finds it difficult to maintain a professional distance from her first real love. Then what happens if she finds Danny? Can she still love a man who abandoned her or is she too drawn to fixing her past mistake to let go of JJ again?

EXCERPT

“What is it you think I can do? Maybe he left you. Get over it. Move on.”
His words stung. “Are you kidding me? He didn’t just leave, JJ. My bedroom was tossed. A cop got shot in my foyer and the goons who did it were looking for me. I was next. I need to find him. I need to figure out why he’s on the run, who’s after him.”
“I didn’t go chasing after you when you left.”
“Oh come on. Look, I’m all for letting you blurt out all your anger later. Hell let’s just swing by my house and get my day planner so we can pencil it in!” I stood up and flailed my arms around. “Right now I need you to be a cop or a P.I. or whatever you are and not my ex. Because I can’t do this alone and I don’t think I can trust anyone else to help me.”
“What makes you think you can trust me?” He growled and stood up next to me.
“JJ.”
I softened my voice and his name came out as more of a question than a statement. As if it was me asking him how he could ask me that. Even after all these years and so many mistakes there were some things that would never change. Feeling safe with him had never been an issue. He all but fell back down onto the loveseat. I sat back down too and turned to look at the box next to him on the cushion. His cologne wafted up into the air. Still wearing Drakkar Noir. I looked at the small laugh lines that had formed beside his eyes. At his salt sprinkled hair. Maybe it wasn’t that JJ never changed, maybe I liked to think he hadn’t moved since I hugged him goodbye at Sky Harbor in the winter of 1991.

AUTHOR BIO

Jenn Flynn-Shon is the Author of Ripple the Twine - a Tomboy-meets-Townie Chick-Lit novel released in April 2012, Trying for the Moon - a collection of prose poetry (Chapbook), Small but Scrappy: Volume One - a Perzine focused on Jenn's first eight years as a Writer, and Randomness and Lunacy, a personal blog documenting all kinds of crazy debauchery that Jenn has been involved in over the years.

She's been writing since age eleven, or thereabouts, and started exploring the world of fiction writing at age thirteen. Her first publication was a poem written for a pop star; it was published under a pen name in Bop Magazine in 1989. Yeah, that's right.

Writesy Press, her independent title, self-publishing house, was founded in January of 2012. Jenn has re-released and/or published most of her work as Writesy Press Publications. Reckless Abandon her first Romantic Suspense novella will be released under this imprint and is slated for an October 2012 release.

She is a two-time winning participant in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo, NaNo) (2009, 2010) and an active member of the Scottsdale Society of Women Writers. Jenn also guest blogs for Team EcoEtsy, writes articles for multiple online sources, and has been content editing colleague's fiction and memoir manuscripts for the past year.

When she makes time to relax she loves to hang out with her husband, explore the country on road trips, watch her Boston sports teams, share laughs with friends and family, and read everything from blogs to novels. Jenn and her husband moved to Phoenix, Arizona from Boston, Massachusetts in the summer of 2011. She makes a point to write daily, and is a shameless self-promoter.
