Ripple the Twine and Reckless Abandon Now in eBook or Paperback

I've been saying for months now that I was going to publish Ripple the Twine as an eBook in addition to its print form but just never got off my butt to figure out how to do it. Then back in October of 2012 I published Reckless Abandon as an eBook and a whole new world opened up!

The real secret that I found out was that publishing an eBook on KDP Select through Amazon is easy. Really, really easy (disclaimer: as long as you've already formatted your Word doc correctly but that's a post for my Writesy blog).

So after I fully formatted Reckless Abandon for paperback (and let me just give a HUGE thank you shout-out to my mom Judi FitzPatrick Studio, for her amazing work on both of my cover designs!) it seemed like a no brainer to get Ripple the Twine ready for sale as an eBook.

And now they're both here in both formats, ready for your reading pleasure! A brief synopsis of each book and the cover art is below, please click on the links that follow to read more, see what my reviewers are saying (LOVE you all!), and to purchase either the eBook or print version depending on your preference.

Stick around as I'll be talking soon about an upcoming Blog Tour for Reckless Abandon and will be hosting a Giveaway on Goodreads for a print copy of the book as well. Happy reading!

Ripple the Twine

A Tomboy-meets-Townie love story that shows how sometimes friends can be your closest family.

Set in Boston Ripple tells the story of Sara Quinn, a 30-something sportswriter thawing out after a long winter season on the sidelines of the fields and the ice. She's a rabid hockey fan and has an eclectic crew of friends who have been battling multiple issues without her while she was off covering the winter market. Now that she's back, everyone is coming to her for advice. Its causing her insecurities about love to bubble up just as a cute Townie named Ben enters the picture. Is she willing to let go of her emotionally painful past to give Ben a chance? And what will Sara do when her three closest friends all announce they may be out of the country more often then they're in it? Can any of them handle their problems on their own or will life force them back together to face things as a family?

Only she’s not alone, Shaw somehow managed to convince her ex-fiancé, Private Investigator JJ Anderson, to help with the search. They start in Phoenix but are chased all the way to Manhattan in somewhat tight quarters and neither of them can deny they may still feel the same as they did twenty years ago. The chase has her spooked but her renewed feelings for JJ might scare her more than the bad guys with guns. Will Shaw find what she's looking for when they reach upstate New York, or will dirty cops catch her before she figures out what, or who, that even is?

Reckless Abandon, A Novella by Jenn Flynn-Shon

Reckless Abandon by Author Jenn Flynn-Shon, is a Romantic Suspense novella. The first in the Shaw McLeary series. Due for release October 2012.

SYNOPSIS

Young Adult fiction Author, Shaw McLeary, returns from Whole Foods to discover her husband, Danny, is gone. So is their stash of cash, his clothes, passport, and her wedding rings. He took off in a hurry and left her behind. While trying to piece it all together Shaw witnesses a cop’s murder in her home. Determined not to become the next victim, she flees. She fears dirty cops are involved in Danny’s disappearance. There's only one person she can trust to help her - JJ Anderson, Private Investigator. Also, her ex-fiancé.

A retired Phoenix cop turned PI, Shaw hopes JJ will be inclined to take her case. Despite his resentment for how their relationship ended, he agrees to help her track down leads on Danny. They chase the clues from Phoenix to Manhattan to upstate New York. In such close quarters Shaw finds it difficult to maintain a professional distance from her first real love. Then what happens if she finds Danny? Can she still love a man who abandoned her or is she too drawn to fixing her past mistake to let go of JJ again?

EXCERPT

“What is it you think I can do? Maybe he left you. Get over it. Move on.”
His words stung. “Are you kidding me? He didn’t just leave, JJ. My bedroom was tossed. A cop got shot in my foyer and the goons who did it were looking for me. I was next. I need to find him. I need to figure out why he’s on the run, who’s after him.”
“I didn’t go chasing after you when you left.”
“Oh come on. Look, I’m all for letting you blurt out all your anger later. Hell let’s just swing by my house and get my day planner so we can pencil it in!” I stood up and flailed my arms around. “Right now I need you to be a cop or a P.I. or whatever you are and not my ex. Because I can’t do this alone and I don’t think I can trust anyone else to help me.”
“What makes you think you can trust me?” He growled and stood up next to me.
“JJ.”
I softened my voice and his name came out as more of a question than a statement. As if it was me asking him how he could ask me that. Even after all these years and so many mistakes there were some things that would never change. Feeling safe with him had never been an issue. He all but fell back down onto the loveseat. I sat back down too and turned to look at the box next to him on the cushion. His cologne wafted up into the air. Still wearing Drakkar Noir. I looked at the small laugh lines that had formed beside his eyes. At his salt sprinkled hair. Maybe it wasn’t that JJ never changed, maybe I liked to think he hadn’t moved since I hugged him goodbye at Sky Harbor in the winter of 1991.

AUTHOR BIO

Jenn Flynn-Shon is the Author of Ripple the Twine - a Tomboy-meets-Townie Chick-Lit novel released in April 2012, Trying for the Moon - a collection of prose poetry (Chapbook), Small but Scrappy: Volume One - a Perzine focused on Jenn's first eight years as a Writer, and Randomness and Lunacy, a personal blog documenting all kinds of crazy debauchery that Jenn has been involved in over the years.

She's been writing since age eleven, or thereabouts, and started exploring the world of fiction writing at age thirteen. Her first publication was a poem written for a pop star; it was published under a pen name in Bop Magazine in 1989. Yeah, that's right.

Writesy Press, her independent title, self-publishing house, was founded in January of 2012. Jenn has re-released and/or published most of her work as Writesy Press Publications. Reckless Abandon her first Romantic Suspense novella will be released under this imprint and is slated for an October 2012 release.

She is a two-time winning participant in National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo, NaNo) (2009, 2010) and an active member of the Scottsdale Society of Women Writers. Jenn also guest blogs for Team EcoEtsy, writes articles for multiple online sources, and has been content editing colleague's fiction and memoir manuscripts for the past year.

When she makes time to relax she loves to hang out with her husband, explore the country on road trips, watch her Boston sports teams, share laughs with friends and family, and read everything from blogs to novels. Jenn and her husband moved to Phoenix, Arizona from Boston, Massachusetts in the summer of 2011. She makes a point to write daily, and is a shameless self-promoter.

Ripple the Twine Book Tour Wrap Up and Amazing Responses

You’d probably think by now that I’m completely burned out on talking, reading or thinking about Ripple the Twine right? Well, yes and no. This book will always be my first published novel. It will always hold that place in my heart as the first child. So miraculous it exists at all.

But then again, it can become tiresome talking about it. Do you recall the scene in Jerry Maguire when Jerry is in the hotel room with his number one star prospect, Cushman, and the phone rings? Someone tells Cushman he’s on the jumbotron and Cush announces that he’s sick of looking at himself; that he has “Cush-lash”.

There are times I feel the same way about my first novel. Times I can’t wait to get the next one out just so I can stop talking about this one. However, this is not one of those times. Today I’m sort of reeling in the amazing response Ripple the Twine has gotten from readers.

And not just any readers, ones who read a lot of books by Indie Authors but still happened to love mine! I know maybe I shouldn’t be surprised anymore but I’m still in awe of the response every time someone new reads it and either officially reviews it or just lets me know how much they loved reading it. Seriously. Awe.

My Chick Lit Plus Blog Tour was still waiting for one last post to go up. With the holiday weekend this past weekend I didn’t get a chance to share the review that was posted over on The East Village this past Saturday. The review was late but I wasn’t stressed about it, hey life happens!

When Samantha at CLP told me the review was up I checked out the link on my phone (which can sometimes act up opening links but I was excited to give it a try!). I almost fell off the chair when I saw what she had to say about my novel! I encourage everyone to get over and read the review on The East Village and leave her a comment. I was pretty much literally blown away by her response!

And then this morning I’m perusing some blogs that I’m long overdue to catch up on reading and I come across a recap post over on Change the Word about the books she’s read in August. Her review of mine was so kind, 4 out of 5 stars and fantastic feedback including advice I’ll make use of while writing future books. Then I read this post today.

Laura recapped the four books she read in August and she said Ripple the Twine was her “Read of the Month”! Holy cow! I’m humbled and so honored. It’s hard to put into words anything other than thank you to express how much I appreciate being told that my book was the leader of the pack (and let me tell ya, the other books on her month’s reading list well, let’s just say that I’ve heard whispers of how awesome they all are!). Please check out the recap post on Change the Word and maybe you’ll even discover another book you want to check out.

So now with the Labor Day holiday behind us here in the U.S. the vibe of summer fun and breezy beach days are winding down. And so is my heavy promotion of Ripple the Twine. Moving into fall my main focus will be to get my second manuscript, Work in Progress, more fully edited and formatted for eBook. But of course I’ll also be taking a little time to appreciate the fruits of the labor that I put into my first.

And hell, if hockey doesn’t happen this season I’m going to (sob uncontrollably because I’ll) have a whole heck of a lot more time to spend writing and editing, so you never know what might materialize!

And the Ripple the Twine Tour Comes to a Close

First and foremost I need to send a HUGE thanks out to Samantha at Chick Lit Plus for organizing and running a super successful virtual tour! Without her expertise I never would have been able to pull this off. I hope you know how excited I was to go on this tour Samantha and I thank you tremendously for doing all you could to make every stop happen on time and on track. I had a BLAST and will definitely hire you again!

The end of the tour comes with two awesomesauce giveaways!

Lost in Literature contest ends tomorrow (Thursday August 30, 2012), CLP ends TODAY! (Hopefully it’s not too late, if it is I apologize)

Thanks again to Samantha and to all the bloggers who read then reviewed and posted about my book. As an Indie Author I am amazed at the level of support out there for what we do. I might still write even if I didn’t have a single reader but it sure wouldn’t be as much fun if I didn’t get to promote other people along the way (especially bloggers seeing as though that’s where I got my start in self-publishing!). You’ve all been wonderful to connect with, to read and to follow and I’m really touched to have had so many of you respond positively to my debut novel Ripple the Twine!

If you would like to purchase a copy of my book please visit my Lulu Storefront

I’ll be taking a break from the blog tomorrow but will be back on Friday to share some info about my upcoming Romantic Adventure novella so enjoy the day off (I know I will heehee) and I’ll see you all on Friday!

Ripple the Twine Tour Starting to Wind Down

But it isn’t over yet! Today’s Tour stop comes from Lisa at Lost in Literature. She was kind enough to post a bio and synopsis of my book in addition to a review in which she gave Ripple the Twine FOUR STARS! Woo hoo!

I’d like to share a somewhat funny story about sending my book out to Lisa. I had purchased a new style of envelope for mailing out these review copies. The envelopes are awesome because they’re 95% recycled content, 65% of which is post-consumer, and they’re really super rigid so I know they’ll protect the books well. Everyone’s book arrived protected and inside their envelope except Lisa’s!!

Considering the blog’s title is Lost in Literature and the book seemed to disappear in the mail I was shaking my head at the irony of it all. Anyway, I chuckled and sent her out another copy.

Thankfully I did! Lisa said"Ripple the Twine is a light, quick read that I thoroughly loved from beginning to end."

I appreciate the opportunity for Ripple the Twine to be featured on Lost in Literature today Lisa!

One quick thing I’d like to address in Lisa’s review however is in regards to the cover. It may appear that these items were Photoshopped together but that isn’t the case at all. This photo shoot was set up by my mom, Judi FitzPatrick Studio, at my sister’s apartment. The shoes are mine & puck belonged to a colleague of my sister. The still life scene was shot in multiple angles at it sat on a coffee table, shrouded in a “green screen”, out on my sister’s front balcony. Although the perspective might look off I assure you, that heel is on the puck and toe was on the table!

Today’s Ripple the Twine Tour Stop Goes Back

I’m finding it hard to believe how fast this Blog Book Tour has cruised by. It’s already day twelve and I have no idea where the time went!  Today my tour finally makes its way to Chick Lit Plus the owner, organizer and promotional guru who has made my Tour so successful!

Chick Lit Plus is run by Samantha March (I was over at her place with Ripple the Twine this past Tuesday) and for anyone who has written a book within the genres she handles I cannot stress enough how much I’ve enjoyed this Tour as organized by her! If you’re looking for marketing help with getting your own tour she’s your gal! Gotta thank you Samantha, this experience has been a blast.

But today she’s wearing the hat of reviewer on Chick Lit Plus, sharing her impressions of Ripple the Twine in general, as well as the overall character, story and structure.

Please take a minute to check out the review and thank Samantha not only for the review, but for being so cool to organize this Tour plus give me feedback on my book!

* * *

It’s hard to believe the Tour is only a few days away from complete. Where did the time go? I’ve been having so much fun meeting new bloggers & connecting.

Of course it’s that old double edge – my proverbial laundry has started to pile up so I’ll be excited to get “home” again, but the fun connection blitz ends when the Tour ends so meeting new people will take a backseat to writing and editing my new project.

Details on my Romantic Adventure novella – Work In Progress – to follow next week!

Ripple the Twine Blog Tour Heads to the Midwest

Today’s stop on the two week whirlwind Blog Tour takes Ripple the Twine all the way to Lincoln, Nebraska  for a review on Change the Word, run by the spunky and sweet Laura. I was thrilled to learn how much we have in common – we’re both two-time NaNoWriMo winners (woo hoo for Wrimos!), we both enjoy sports, and we’re both hard at work on our third manuscript. How cool is that? Very…but not as cool as it was for this Indie Author to read her review of my first novel!

Laura gave Ripple the Twine four out of five stars and said that I had “Well-developed, realistic characters with relatable issues” which was cool to hear as that’s exactly what I was going for when writing it. She also gave me about the hugest compliment in the world by saying “Ripple the Twine is a solid debut fiction novel. I look forward to seeing Flynn-Shon's future projects.”

Wowza, thanks so much for the solid review on Change the Word Laura, I’m pretty much going to be doing my own version of the touchdown dance for the rest of the day after reading it!

Please check out my review on Change the Word and leave a comment then poke around Laura’s blog, and follow her on social media (see Contact page for details). If you have a book you’d like reviewed she also has info on that so get cracking writers and get your books out!

I’ll be sticking around Laura’s abode for a couple days, she’s let me share some space at her place overnight, and I have a guest post going up tomorrow. Come on back & hang with us at CtW again on Thursday. I’ll get the link out tomorrow morning.

Thanks for the rave Laura, I greatly appreciate it, but most important for an Indie Author is that people read and review it at all so I’m doubly thanking you for taking the time to do just that!

UPDATE

Ripple the Twine is currently sold in print format but is due to hit the virtual shelves as an eBook in the fall of 2012. Details to follow after the CLP Blog Tour wraps up so stick around!

In the meantime you can go and check out my book on:

Happy reading everyone!
